Ipsy Glam Bag Review: First Month

Ipsy Glam Bag Review

I decided to sign up for the Ipsy Glam Bag not too long ago, because it seemed like a really good deal and an easy way to try out some different products that I could let you guys know about!

So first, what is the Ipsy Glam Bag?

The Ipsy Glam Bag is a cute little cosmetic bag, that is delivered once a month. It comes with 5 beauty products (some travel size products and some full size products) that are tailored to you and it only costs $10/month! I have to tell you...For my first month I got $72 worth of product for $10!!!!!!

I am not an affiliate with Ipsy; I do, however, earn bonus points that I can turn into extra products when you buy through my link! I do not receive anything when you buy the specific products through the links I have provided. However, if you sign up for the Ipsy Glam Bag, you get special discounts on each of the products, should you decide to buy them!

How do they know how to personalize it to you?

So, when you first go to sign up, you will fill out a little quiz that has questions about pretty much everything. Some of the questions are: your skin tone, your eye color, your hair color, whether you're comfortable with makeup or not, what types of products you like the most, skin concerns, etc., and it looks something like this:

So, what did I get in my first glam bag?

I received a full size makeup brush, a full size liquid eyeliner, a travel size concealer, a travel size eyeshadow/highlighter, and a travel size facial elixir.

So here is my review of each and every product.

This is a Firma Beauty 103 Angled Contour Brush. It retails for approximately $15.

Oh my gosh I love this brush! It is super soft and it doesn't shed! I honestly wasn't exactly sure what I was going to use this for when I first got it--to be honest, I have a lot of brushes I really like. However, I wanted to try it out just so I could review it. I personally used this brush to apply my highlighter and let me tell you -- it's now the only brush I will be using to do so. The highlight went on smooth, it didn't clump up in any one spot and i didn't feel like I needed to blend it much. Truly, love this brush.

This is Seraphine Botanicals Liquid Coal Liquid Waterproof Eyeliner. It retails for approximately $22.

I love, love, love this eyeliner. It has a tip, almost like a marker. It is so easy to apply because you can basically draw it on, just like you would do with a fine tip marker. I've tried other eyeliners similar to this, but usually within a week or two they are dried out and useless. I've had this one for almost a month now, and it's still going just as strong as day one. The only downside I can find with this eyeliner is that it is not as waterproof as they say it is. So, because of that I wouldn't necessarily recommend using this for your wedding, but for daily use and engagement pictures where you (hopefully) won't be crying, I think I'm in love!

I did a test on this eyeliner, vs. a few others.

Eyeliner Comparison Test

So, in my opinion, the one from Ipsy definitely went on the cleanest and was the easiest to use. The Loreal one was the blackest black, but was more difficult to apply and was very shiny upon application. The Wet n Wild one did not go on very smooth--it is obviously the most messy looking one, but it was a little easier to apply than the Loreal one.

But, how did they hold up with water?

This is after wetting my hand down and gently rubbing for a few seconds:

So, the Wet n Wild is clearly the winner for staying power! The Loreal flaked horribly as soon as it was exposed to water. The Ipsy bag one faded, but the line still looks the same. If I were chosing for daily wear I would still choose the Ipsy one. If it was for my wedding, I probably honestly wouldn't choose any of them because the Wet n Wild one was pretty hard to apply, and the other two wouldn't hold up to any crying I might do that day.

This is AURORA Pro Cover Up Concealer in Pale Ecru. The FULL size version of this retails for around $8.

I like this. I'm not sure if I love it. What I will say...they got my skin tone spot on with this concealer. It blends into my skin perfectly. It just honestly doesn't have quite enough coverage for me...Don't get me wrong, it's not sheer coverage. I just prefer a really full coverage. I'd say this one is medium coverage. Overall, I like it enough to continue using it on an almost daily basis, but if I have a bad zit, I layer it with my Smashbox Studio Skin concealer.

This is The Balm Cosmetics Voyage Vol. 2 Eyeshadow/Luminizer in Kuwakaribisha. The retail price of the palette is around $39. I estimate the value of this product at around $3 because the palette comes with 15 other products.

I really love The Balm in general. I will say that this is the first time I've actually tried their eyeshadow/highlighter and I love it. I actually started using this eyeshadow as my highlighter along with the brush they sent me. I love this as a highlighter! I have also used it as an eyeshadow, however, it is just slightly too close to my skin tone for me to really love it as an eyeshadow. I don't feel like it shows up enough.

This is Gavee Gold Heart of Gold Elixir. The retail price for the FULL size of this is a whopping $175! However, the value of what they sent me is around $28 (they sent me a discount code with the product to take it down to $24.95 if I purchase it). This is such a tiny amount of this stuff for the price it would cost to buy it! I know it's hard to tell in my photos, but the picture below is the product next to a standard sized business card, so you can get the idea of how small this is.

This one was very confusing to me when I got it. I could not for the life of me figure out what it was! I assumed it was some kind of facial gel/cream, but I wasn't sure.

This is all that it came with. Just this little jar in an organza bag with this note. That's it! However, one of the most awesome things about the Ipsy Glam Bag is that you can log in to your account online or on their app and you can view what every product they send you is! Not only that, it actually tells you how to use it! Being able to see that saved me in this case.

As for how well I like or dislike this product, I'll be honest, I haven't seen much change to my skin after using it a few times. I feel like for such an expensive product, you have to use more of it than I would like to in order to fully cover your skin and I'm not sure this tiny amount of product is really enough to leave a good review for it. I feel like I would have to use it for a few weeks to see much change and there just isn't enough product here to do that.
